Recursos para aprender inglês sozinho: O Guia Definitivo
Welcome to the club. I’ve been teaching English to Brazilians for a long time. One of the most common questions I receive from my students is, “What should I study? Where should I start?”
There are a lot of resources on the Internet. Some are great, most are…not so great.
Here is a list of some of our favorite resources to really start improving your English. We personally use every resource on this page to learn languages faster and have more fun in the process.
We really believe that podcasts are the future of language learning. If you don't know what podcasts are, this is a good place to start: New to podcasts? Comece aqui.
If you are familiar with podcasts, you can continue reading to get straight to the good stuff.
Obviously, we have to start with our own podcast. We created Inglês Nu E Cru Rádio to provide high-quality, daily episodes to teach you how to SPEAK real English and have fun at the same time. Our episodes have been downloaded more than 750,000 times by Brazilians learning English with us everyday.
Speaking of daily routines, here are some other great podcast that you can listen to everyday. You don't have to change your schedule or travel to a traditional English school after work. You can simply learn English on your way to work, walking your dog, whenever you want
You can literally listen to podcasts about any subject in the world. Here are 5 amazing podcasts (in English) that talk about Brazil and all things Brazilian. We love them. Our students love them. We are sure that you will love these podcasts as well.
Most of the podcasts mentioned above are for intermediate and advanced learner. In this post, we give recommendations for all levels, interests, and necessities. Check them out.
How to study English
Let's face it. Studying a new language is hard. It's difficult to know where to focus and where to spend you time. These resources will make the process of studying English much easier and help you learn much more effectively.
One of my first recommendations for new students, regardless of their level and experience, is to focus on scripts and routines. When you memorize scripts, you can speak more confidently and have more sophisticated conversations. When you have a good daily routine, your English becomes more improvised and conversation flows more naturally.
If you are like me, you probably procrastinate a lot of the time. This article provides you with some simple tips and techniques to learn more without changing your schedule.
Aplicativos para melhorar seu inglês
If you are familiar with our work, you probably know that we are not huge fans of most language learning apps. However, there are some apps that can really improve your English if you use them in right way.
Here are some of our favorites:
The largest pronunciation dictionary in the world. All the words in all the languages pronounced by native speakers. You can simply search for a word, and you have a native speaker pronounce it for you. It's awesome.
Let's face it, Google Translator doesn't work very well. You don't won't artificial intelligence giving you translations, you want real people. Linguee searches millions of texts to find accurate translations.
If you want to learn real English slang and idiomatic expressions, Urban Dictionary is the place to go. You find everything from curse words to acronyms and new phrases that all the cool kids are using nowadays.
Use YouTube to improve your English pronunciation. With more than 30 million tracks, YouGlish gives you fast, unbiased answers about how English is spoken by real people and in context. Simply search for a word or phrases, and Youglish will take you directly to hundred's Youtube videos where you can analyze the phrase in real context.
Enjoy an unlimited number of books, audiobooks, magazines, and more. You can think of Scribd as Netflix for English learning. Scribd has tons of e-books, audiobooks, PDF's, magazines, and news articles for a small monthly fee. Totally worth it.
Listen to books wherever you are with a free app—at home, in the car, at the gym. Even if you switch devices, you'll never lose your place. No one's got more listens than Audible. Don't like one? No-questions-asked returns means exchanges are easy. Audible is a little more expensive than Scribd, but the collection seems to be a bit more expansive.
Do you want to watch movie over and over again? Do you like listening music,Podcast repeatedly?
Do you want to listen particular sentence in lecture? Speater is the answer. We use Speater all the time to repeat with podcasts, songs, and series. It is really amazing if you are willing to put in the time and effort.
RepeatPlayer is originally designed for studying language but you can also use it for listening music. As far as we can tell (we are iPhone people) Repeat Player is very similar to Speater.
Talking to humans
The most important thing about learning English is human connection. The most important thing you can do right now to transform your English is to talk to a native speaker.
